L’iniziativa si concentra su un vasto insieme di fonti orali raccolte nella seconda metà del XX secolo da ricercatori locali non accademici che, operando in modo indipendente, non solo condussero le interviste, ma conservarono anche i materiali nelle proprie abitazioni. Questi archivi sono rimasti finora inaccessibili e non sono stati adeguatamente tutelati dalle istituzioni pubbliche. Attraverso la piattaforma Phaidra, il progetto intende raccogliere e diffondere queste risorse per la prima volta, rispondendo così alla richiesta di lunga data degli storici italiani di poterle consultare, e allo stesso tempo restituendo voce a storici e archivisti che hanno coltivato la propria passione e sviluppato pratiche di ricerca indipendenti al di fuori delle istituzioni accademiche. L’archivio digitale ospitato su Phaidra riconosce le domande poste dagli storici-archivisti, i significati attribuiti ai loro archivi e le motivazioni che hanno guidato il loro lavoro, considerandoli fondamentali non solo per un corretto riutilizzo delle interviste, ma anche per far emergere modalità di pratica della storia orale largamente trascurate dalle università, che hanno promosso una storiografia distinta a causa dell’ortodossia accademica. In questo senso, l’archivio sonoro digitale diventa anche una base per una storia sociale della storiografia, offrendo nuove prospettive sui modi in cui la Prima guerra mondiale è stata narrata e interpretata. La presentazione si concenta su come questo complesso compito di trasmissione di esperienze e fonti di ricerca sia stato portato avanti in collaborazione con Phaidra, nonché sui risultati ottenut a due anni dall’inizio del progetto di dottorato. This PhD project seeks to establish the first digital sound archive in Italy dedicated to the First World War. The initiative focuses on a vast body of oral sources collected during the second half of the Twentieth century by local, non-academic researchers who, acting independently, not only carried out the interviews, but also preserved their materials in private homes. These archives have until now remained inaccessible and have not been adequately safeguarded by public institutions. Through the Phaidra platform, the project aims to collect and disseminate these resources for the first time, thus responding to the long-standing demand of Italian historians for access, while also seeking to restore a voice to historians and archivists who have cultivated their passion and developed independent research practices beyond academic institutions. The digital archive housed on Phaidra recognizes the questions posed by historian-archivists, the meanings they attributed to their archives, and the motivations that guided their work as fundamental not only for the proper reuse of interviews, but also for bringing to light ways of practising oral history that were largely neglected by universities, which promoted a historiography distinct due to academic orthodoxy. In this sense, the digital sound archive also becomes a basis for a social history of historiography, shedding new light on the ways in which the First World War has been narrated and understood. The presentation focuses on how this complex task of transmitting research experiences and sources is undertaken in collaboration with Phaidra, as well as the results achieved to date, two years after the beginning of the PhD project.
