o:500203 Habitando un mismo suelo Inhabiting the Same Soil Quechua santiagueño y español: entre migración, bilingüismo y traducción Santiago del Estero Quechua and Spanish: between Migration, Bilingualism and Translation es El ensayo centra la atención en el contacto lingüístico entre el quechua de Santiago del Estero y el español como también los aspectos sociolingüísticos, la situación actual y la supervivencia de esta lengua, aspecto que para muchos autores sigue siendo un “enigma lingüístico” (Courthès 2007). Se toma en consideración la teoría de James Crawford (2000), quien sostiene que los fenómenos de dislocación geográfica, dislocación social y dislocación cultural llevarían a una lengua forzosamente a desaparecer. Esto es lo contrario de lo que sucede en la llamada “isla lingüística” de Santiago del Estero, donde la lengua se mantiene vigente y es usada cotidianamente por sus habitantes tanto dentro como fuera de ella. En tal sentido, se ha llevado adelante un trabajo de campo en el que se analiza una muestra de entrevistas realizadas a hablantes bilingües oriundos de la “isla lingüística” afincados en las zonas urbanas de Buenos Aires. En todos los casos se trata de habitantes que se encuentran en situación de contacto lingüístico entre el quechua de Santiago del Estero y el español. A partir de un análisis intersemiótico e interlingüístico de la novela Shunko (1949) de Jorge W. Ábalos y de su homónima adaptación cinematográfica (1960) de Lautaro Murúa, se aborda el contacto entre el quechua y el español, ya que se presenta como una parte fundamental de los elementos lingüísticos y metalingüísticos que dan cuenta del choque entre la voz del maestro y las voces de los niños (Aguilar 2005). En este sentido, se observan también las actitudes y el uso de la lengua con el propósito de trazar las relaciones entre los cambios de código (code-switching) y la mezcla de códigos (code-mixing) (Poplack 1980) como también los aspectos proxémicos que contribuyen al realismo sociolingüístico de los personajes tanto en la novela como en la película. The essay focuses on the linguistic contact between Quechua from Santiago del Estero and Spanish, as well as sociolinguistic aspects about the current situation and the survival of this language, an aspect that for many authors continues to be a “linguistic enigma” (Courthès 2007). The theory of James Crawford (2000) is taken into consideration, who maintains that the phenomena of geographic dislocation, social dislocation and cultural dislocation would forcefully lead a language to disappear. This is the opposite of what happens in the so-called “linguistic island” of Santiago del Estero, where the language remains in force and is used daily by its inhabitants both inside and outside that area. In this sense, a field work has been carried out in which a sample of interviews with bilingual speakers from the “linguistic island” living in the urban areas of Buenos Aires is analyzed. In all cases, these are inhabitants who are in a situation of linguistic contact between the Quechua of Santiago del Estero and Spanish. Based on an intersemiotic and interlinguistic analysis of the novel Shunko (1949) by Jorge W. Ábalos and its homonymous film adaptation (1960) by Lautaro Murúa, the contact between Quechua and Spanish is addressed, since it is presented as a fundamental part of the linguistic and metalinguistic elements that account for the clash between the teacher’s voice and the children’s voices (Aguilar 2005). In this sense, attitudes and language use are also observed in order to trace the relationships between code-switching and code-mixing (Poplack 1980) as well as aspects proxemics that contribute to the sociolinguistic realism of the characters in both the novel and the film.
