Endoparassiti intestinali di Vertebrati acquatici e terrestri; ospiti intermedi: crostacei e insetti.
1, 2) Adulto con proboscide cefalica retrattile, munita di spine retrocurve. 2 sacchi idraulici claviformi facilitano l‘estensione della proboscide: lemnischi. E‘ evidente il sistema riproduttore.
Uova (7, 8) e vari stadi dello sviluppo embrionale e larvale.

    <ns1:description language="en">Phylum Acanthocephala

All acanthocephalans are endoparasitic, living as adults in the intestine of aquatic and terrestrial Vertebrates; larvae develop in arthropods, either crustaceans or insects (intermediate hosts).
1, 2) Adult with a retractile proboscis, which bears rows of recurved hooks. Two elongated hydraulic sacs (lemnisci) facilitate the extension of proboscis. Reproductive system is evident.
Eggs (7, 8) and different stages of embryonic and larval development.
